NhT Boyz feat. Cousin Fik - “Bands Play” (YouTube, 2013). Off of Nht Boyz Presents: YP vs. Rizzy, which just dropped today and is available for free here. This track is produced by YP. The tape is a pretty cool concept (two of their most frequently-used producers) and has a ton of features (Fik, Gully, FAB, Clyde Carson, etc.). Yang.
Our next Valentine’s day gift comes courtesy of San Jose rapper, Antwon. The artist has made quite the name for himself ever since he time-travelled from the mid 1990s and started releasing his recollective jams. His 2012 summer hit ‘Living Every Dream’ made an instant impression and we’ve been thoroughly and continuously intrigued by the man and more importantly his work. In Dark Denim is his brand new mixtape and it has just been released via Greedhead. You can preview the entire project and download it here.
Just posting. Haven’t listened yet.
cool window into the thought process as “Five On It” was blowing up. The Luniz had this insane street buzz even before that record dropped, but when a song takes off like that, you just try to capitalize on it as quickly as possible, and sometimes it’s a little too late. It’s kind of crazy how the remix just added another level of success, even longer legs on what was already a smash. And now all you ever hear is the remix, I went back to the original version a little while ago and was surprised how seldom you hear it anymore.

There were so many versions of this song. My favorite was the reprise, cuz it featured such a funny conversation between Yukmouth and Numskull.

Cookie Money feat. Philthy Rich - “Yo Bitch” (YouTube, 2013). Produced by DJ Mustard.
I bet this song is gonna be very big in the Bay, which is good because DJ Mustard x Bay artists is great and this video features some very pretty women, but it’s bad because it’s a stupid song, I don’t like Philthy Rich for some reason, and it would be cooler if this was Sleepy D instead of Cookie Money.
Feva - “Muscle Milk” (YouTube, 2013). Stepping out my lane by posting a non-Bay song, but Feva going in over clapped up version of TLC’s “Creep” is my business. It’s the business.
Dubb 20 feat. Husalah - “Been Awhile” (YouTube, 2013). Visual for one of Dubb 20’s tracks off of The A.R. Street Album. The Street Album is pretty solid, and I’d say Dubb 20 steals the show overall on the tape.
This video features some great Mac Dre footage towards the end.
YG feat. D-Lo - “B I T C H” (produced by DJ Mustard & Mike Lee).
This song’s got some really, really nice bass on it. Some blappers on YG’s new tape.
Mac Mase feat. D-Lo - “Ratchet” (YouTube, 2013). Produced by C-Loz.
Don’t mind the song title, but on a scale of doesn’t to does go, this song goes. And D-Lo’s verse is hilarious. ”I’m balling, no hoop court/No 2 Chainz, my father figure was Too $hort.” I have no idea who Mac Mase is or how he got so many features on his mixtape.
*mixtape link fixed!
HD feat. Hen Sippa - “Still Hungry,” (YouTube, 2013).
I imagine this is off of No Dayz Off, which drops February 15. Perfect song title and subject, because I think it really is why HD rapping better than anyone else in the Bay right now. He’s motivated and isn’t getting lazy or complacent. Hopefully critics/bloggers/twitters/humans outside the Bay other than David Drake and H.L. (and maybe The Martorialist is into him?) will start to recognize this guy is great.
Shady Blaze - C5 Money Hype (Prod. Al Jieh)
new song i did with g.o. chap5.
What a great beat.
Philthy Rich feat. Alley Boy, Young Breed, and 4Rax - “Not Enough Real Ni##as Left” (YouTube, 2013). Produced by the Mekanix.
If nothing else (and probably nothing else), I’m impressed by how much money Philthy Rich has to throw around for features. And on top of the Duct Tape Ent. and MMG appearances, there’s an inexplicable cameo by Fat Trel near the end. I’m speechless.
Boo Banga feat. Jacka and Blast Holiday - “Drug Trade,” (Youtube, 2012).
Dope disclaimer (bringing the real fakeness / fake realness to this rap game).
Jacka with a little extra pep in his step.
Blast continuing his growth.
I still don’t understand Boo Banga’s appeal.
HD feat. Blast Holiday and Hen Sippa - “Just Wanna Be Free. Off of Extortion Muzik 4.
Bad on the lettuce,
Send a kite on CD,
EM 3, getting paid to speak,
Wanna be free like the MLK speech,
But I’m still chasin chicken down MLK street.
